Faizunnesa, 9 months old, had surgery this year to remove the cataract in her right eye. The surgery was performed at Chittagong (Bangladesh) Eye Infirmary and Training Complex, where ORBIS has been engaged in a multi-year project to strengthen overall eye care capacity. With approximately 40 percent of the country’s population below age 16, the priority for ORBIS has been to establish pediatric eye care services. ORBIS helped CEITC set up a child-friendly ophthalmic unit and provides advanced training in pediatric ophthalmology and other ophthalmic specialties.

Ideas for Action

What better way to celebrate the holiday season than to give the gift of sight? Instead of giving sweaters, ties or expensive electronic devices to family members and friends, consider making an online donation to ORBIS in their name.
